This weekend’s ‘al fresco’ Sunset Concerts overlooking St Ouen’s Bay were cancelled because of the likelihood of wind and rain.
Donna Le Marrec, the National Trust for Jersey’s Marketing and Events Manager, said the site at Mont Grantez afforded little protection from the elements and therefore the ‘difficult decision’ was made.
Speaking on the day of the cancelled event, she said: ‘It is such a shame to have to cancel the Sunset Concerts as so much goes into the planning and delivery of these events and we rarely, if ever, cancel activity. However, the weather is beyond our control and it wouldn’t be pleasant for concert goers or the band and technical teams if the weather is as predicted. We are sincerely sorry for any disappointment this will cause attendees.’
The 1,700-plus attendees will receive a full refund, minus booking fees.
Although the Sunset Concerts are unlikely to be rescheduled in 2024, the Trust is staging a series of smaller musical events at the newly acquired Seaside Café at Grève de Lecq.
The site has recently been painted, cleaned and tidied by a team of volunteers from the Jersey Financial Services Commission and is ready to support summer activities.
An evening with Les Conteurs Singers takes place on Wednesday 26th June and an exhibition of the history and heritage of the bay with local resident, the artist John Syvret, is being held on 29th and 30th June. Regular yoga sessions are also planned.
