In 2022 The Sustainable Cooperative launched an Open Farm Day programme, inviting over 500 islanders to meet and engage with some of the island’s most exciting organic and regenerative growers.
It is now launching its second round of Open Farm Days. These will include local producers working with animals, alongside market garden smallholders and those growing for their own productions (gin production, restaurants and artisan dairy), demonstrating a range of agricultural opportunities in Jersey.
All of the featured growers and producers share an interest in nurturing local ecological habitats, protecting our natural resources and producing wonderful food. A tour of each farm is followed by some delicious food, prepared with ingredients grown or produced on the site.
Open Farm Days aim to create a network of support among existing growers and those who might be considering a farming future, while connecting local producers with consumers, to foster a greater understanding and appreciation towards the work farmers in Jersey do for their community. Open Farm Days are supported by Farm Jersey.
Upcoming Open Farm Days
The first of these Open Days took place on Sunday 8 September, to learn about their work providing opportunities for therapeutic care, while rearing goats, sheep, pigs and chickens.
The next visit will be to local smallholder and market gardener Oliver Griggs of The Lomah (The Land of Milk & Honey), on Saturday 21 September.
