Turkey Buster 2014 ‘Full of Eastern Promise’

Tuesday 1ST JANUARY, 12 NOON START

ONCE again, Islanders are gently encouraged to shed the excess festive ounces by joining the socially mobile Turkey Buster Walk on New Year’s Day – January 01.

This hugely popular annual event, organized by The National Trust for Jersey, first took to the Island’s coast and countryside in 2001 and is now generally accepted as a traditionally social and healthy way of starting the year.
In the past, each walk has concentrated very much on our coastline with the northern cliff paths, the western dunes and southern headlands all proving exceptionally popular.

This time, it’s to the coast and country lanes of the eastern parish of Grouville where walkers will be leaving their footfall.

As such, this two-hour circular step-out will have strong environmental undertones as walkers pass alongside a maritime area of Ramsar designation and through an important part of Jersey’s Coastal National Park.

By way of scenic variety, the marshland of Grouville and the high-top lanes overlooking the parish and the stunning outline of Mont Orgueil Castle should ensure a walk full of eastern promise.
Under the leadership, once again, of Mike Stentiford and his team of National Trust ‘yellow jackets’, walkers are invited to meet at 12 noon in the large public car park at Longbeach.

As ever, a liquid reward at journeys end in exchange for a modest donation towards the Trust’s ongoing Coastline Campaign should tie a fine green bow on what is likely to prove an ideal start to 2014.
Minimum donation of £2.00 per person in support of the National Trust’s Coastline Campaign.
