Jersey Electricity (JE) has announced a £600,000 upgrade to its public electric vehicle (EV) charging network to significantly improve the charging experience for Jersey’s EV drivers and support the growing local demand for low-carbon electric transportation.
This market leading platform will provide Islanders with access to an innovative public EV charging technology that will future proof the network and further demonstrates JE’s commitment to low-carbon transportation on the Island. The platform will bring increased flexibility, enabling the company to develop further products to make charging more accessible, more convenient and more cost effective for public, business and home charging. It will also make it easier for local EV drivers to access international public charging networks and for overseas visitors driving in Jersey.
JE CEO Chris Ambler said the upgrade supports the Island’s ambitions for a zero-carbon future. ‘As more people switch to low-carbon transportation, in line with the Government’s Carbon Neutral Roadmap and the recently announced plans for a government subsidy to buy EVs, the Evolve network is ready for investment now to meet the future demand for public charging.
‘Whilst the existing Evolve platform, with its 109 public charging points, has served the Island well, technology and innovation in the EV market has rapidly evolved in recent years, so this is the right time for this project. JE is committed to ensuring Jersey EV drivers have access to a “next generation” charging network that meets their charging needs and helps to decarbonise transportation.’
The new public charging platform is expected to be rolled out over the next six months.
