WHAT’S ON: THINGS TO DO IN JERSEY THS JUNE

The bunting is out and the flags are ready – this month is packed with events celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and beyond. Here are some of the best exhibitions, talks, walks and shows happening in June.

Saturday 4 June – St Peter’s Valley’s Royal heritage

Commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and enjoy a visit to Le Moulin de Quétivel to find out about St Peter’s Valley’s Royal Heritage. Meet the miller and discover why the King’s tenants living in the parish of St Brelade were required to grind their grain in St Peter during the medieval era, and find out about historical recipes such as Victorian Sponge, and gilded gingerbread, a traditional celebration treat.

Sunday 5 June – Platinum Jubilee horse racing

Place your bets at the Platinum Jubilee Race Meeting at Les Landes Race Course happening over the bank holiday weekend. Cheer on your favourites or, if it’s your first time at the races, take a look at the Race Club’s step-by-step guide to get the most of the day. The first race starts at 2.30 pm.

Saturday 11 & Sunday 12 June – RJA&HS Summer Country Fair 

The Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society is hosting its Summer Country Fair at the Royal Jersey Showground in Trinity. As well as a cattle show and early summer flower show, you’ll find lots of local trade stands and activities for children, including bouncy castles and swing boats.

Thursday 16 June – Where Waste Meets Design 

Join sustainability activist Sheena Brockie for her talk ‘There’s No Such Place as Away’ for the new Skipton Big Ideas exhibition, Where Waste Meets Design. Sheena will talk about what happens to waste, what we can recycle and where it goes, about the waste hierarchy and the importance of reducing consumption over recycling more.

Saturday 25 June ­– Geowalk: Portelet Common

Take a tour of Portelet Common as part of the series of guided walks from the Aspiring Jersey Island Geopark (AJIG) project. Experience the wild nature and magnificent views of this outstanding heathland and discover why it has been important to humankind for millennia.

Thursday 30 June – Inspiring positive environmental change

Executive director of global NGO the Blue Marine Foundation Charles Clover and Jersey photographer Matt Porteous have spent years campaigning for healthier oceans. Join them in this talk from Leadership Jersey where they will be sharing their insights into driving positive environmental change. 

All profits from the event will be donated to Blue Marine Foundation and Ocean Culture Life.
