A scheme to provide interim financial support to the Island’s fishing industry has been approved by Ministers.
The Fisheries Support Scheme will provide financial support for fixed costs and salaries incurred between May and August 2021, and will be available to businesses that are directly involved in activity related to fisheries.
Its objectives are:
* to ensure that Jersey maintains the core infrastructure and critical mass of the fisheries sector to continue to operate as a sustainable and viable part of Jersey’s economy;
* to provide bridging support during the period of disruption to export routes and market access, while other initiatives to facilitate trade are developed
The Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture, Senator Lyndon Farnham, said: ‘Our fishing industry is experiencing a combination of challenges which threaten both its short and longer-term survival. Those challenges include pressures on key stocks; uncertainties around access to Jersey waters; and Brexit-related barriers to Jersey’s long-established markets in Europe.’
The Fisheries Support Scheme will be delivered in partnership with Jersey Business. Details of the scheme are available on gov.je
